Decision Medicine was created by the San Joaquin Medical Society to address the widespread physician shortage we are experiencing in San Joaquin County. It is a program for 24 high school juniors and seniors who are interested in becoming physicians. Our students are high achieving from underrepresented backgrounds and attend a variety of high schools from across San Joaquin County. Many will be the first in their family to attend college. During the 2 weeks, students are introduced to a day in the life of a physician by exposing them to a diverse number of clinical settings and mentoring opportunities. The goal is to provide inspiration and resources to assist them on their path to medical school and ultimately encourage them to come back to serve their community.
