Bridge to Medicine

Overview: Bridge to Medicine (BTM) is a selective program designed for high-achieving high school and college students dedicated to pursuing a career in medicine. Sponsored by the San Joaquin Medical Society, the program aims to encourage local academically talented students to study medicine and return to practice in the area. BTM is supported by volunteer physicians, alliance members, and professors.

Program Highlights:

  • Pathways to Medicine Informational Meetings for High School Students:
    • Open to sophomores and juniors only, these sessions cover essential topics such as:
      • College preparation, selection and success in undergrad
      • Professionalism, volunteering and shadowing opportunities
         
  • Virtual Q&A Sessions w/Experts
    • Offered periodically
       
  • Mentorship Opportunities:
    • Qualified students who attend at least one in-person session will be invited to apply for a mentor toward the end of their junior year. Mentors are assigned based on availability
    • College, postgraduate, and gap year students may apply year-round and will be assigned mentors periodically

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must currently attend or have graduated from high schools in San Joaquin, Alpine, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolume counties
